UK: Cheap tofu in Sainsburys and quick(ish) tofu preparation

Ok - for a quick(ish) hit of protein here's what I do.

Grab one of these:

cut into slices
splash on some soy sauce onto one side (two sides is fine but I'm lazy)
brush with a little oil
grill until crispy on one side
turn the strips over
give a liberal sprinkle of some of this:

brush with a little oil
grill until the other side is crispy.
eat (usually in a sanwich with ketchup).

It takes about 15 minutes to cook on my grill. Do you have a quick way to prepare tofu? - 'cos I just bought loads (and loads) because its only 75p a slab (half price) in Sainsburys at the moment.

30g of protein in each slab according to the packet - and a little more in the bread.

nice recipe, john

my current tofu recipes consist of mashing up and frying with a little oil, then adding either vegan mayonaise or tofutti garlic and chives cream cheese, then sunflower seeds and spinach or kale. amazing!

it has been half price for about 2-3 weeks now!
not sure about the logic behind it, but who cares! i'm loving it

Sounds good Talyn - thank you.

Do you add the spinacjh/kale raw - or cook it first please?

John.

i add it at the end, so it cooks for a couple of minutes, just enough to sweat out the water so its not so bulky

Chinese supermarkets tend to do very large blocks of firm/silken tofu for around £1. Great for making a scrambled tofu breakfast or cornmeal coated tofu.
