heh... My fav is Lou Barlow/Sebadoh...some great break-up tunes in there.

Neat list, much more 'hip' than i was expecting!

So, this isn't really classical by any extent of the word but it was the breakup song that pretty much made me feel better. It's bitter and exactly what you'd expect from him, but if you are seeking out some new ones here is a gooder. It's called (s)Aint by Marilyn Manson.

suggestion: Jawbreaker - Dear You. So many good lyrics. Here's a sampling.

"I made a word to give this state a name, this game a guess.
I call it "sluttering."
It means as little as your little test.
You are your worst revenge.
Your very means, they have no ends.
This is a story you won't tell the kids we'll never have.
If you hear this song a hundred times it still won't be enough."

"This is the part I wouldn't show you.
The part where you say, "I don't even know you."
This is your cue.
Be glad it's through."

What about the song "she fuckin' hates me!"
Or the other beck break up song "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me".

I lay and cried listening to REM- everybody hurts, when I had been cheated on and was newly broken up. That was a long time ago. :)
"Drink some concrete and harden up"

Big hugs for everyone!

Sad songs kind of cheer me up because it reminds me that what i'm going through is nothing new and in a way that makes me feel like people can relate to me.
I use music for so many things, and when I went through a break up I was listening a lot to the Killers 'When you were young' and generally other atmospheric things that made me think clearer. Some Sigur ros and other selected songs.

Everybody hurts has just some of the best lyrics i've ever read.

Oak :)
