Who's your favourite drummer?

Postby bronco » Wed Apr 19, 2006 6:22 am

I would say Dave 'Thunder' Lombardo :D . I find he has a nice sound, allmost kind of sloppy which is good. This together with his playing style gives his playing a feeling of being on the edge, allmost out of control but not quite. And of course, as we all know, being allmost out of control is an essential part of playing rock'n'roll :D .

Apart from Lombardo I would place Bill Ward pretty high on the list, Maybe Ian Paice as well. Perhaps Bob 'Boom Boom' Bennet could also fit in, he played pretty rough for a 60s guy I think :D . Not sure if Philthy Animal Taylor might also make it, but I wouldnt rule him out completely at least.

So anyway, what is other peoples opinion on the subject?

Haha, I read the title of this thread and immediately thought of Lombardo & Nicko, looks like you beat me to it!

If I had to pick someone else I'd go for Ken Owen of Carcass - and he's vegetarian!

Been listening to lots of Unearth recently and their drummer is pretty tasty too (can't rememer the name though).

Yeah, nobody laugh, that's an excellent album :D . That would be Mikkey Dee on the drums :) . I agree that he does a good job with the king, but I dont like his drumming with motorhead much - too much metal for my taste, so I prefer good old philthy :D .

All the drummers mentioned above, except Philthy, are great drummers. But I thought maybe we should mention some non-metal drummers as well. So I would like to mention Jaki Liebezeit from Can. His playing has got a strange kind of groove.

But Lombardo is the best!

You rate Mikkey Dee higher than Philthy? Come on, he's from gothenburg for crying out loud  .

But I thought maybe we should mention some non-metal drummers as well.

Why :D ? Besides I allready mentioned 'Boom Boom' Bennet. Allthough I admit that there probably were better drummers around in the 60s, I really like his overuse of the bassdrum.

Aha, is it a krauty groove or what :) ?

OK, Mikkey Dee isn't that great either. Or maybe they are both competent drummers and I just don't like the music of Motörhead that much.

Oops, I guess I missed Boom Boom.

I was blown away by Raymond Herrera drumming. Anyone who has heard Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" knows what I'm talking about.

I also like David Vande Zande of Arkangel. Although he is no spectacular drummer, I like his distinctive style and tempos. The same goes for Danny Schuller of Biohazard who has this groovy way of playing hard music - "Urban discipline" being the best example.

Cool, I was also thinking of Danny Schuller :D . You're right, his drumming on Urban discipline is ace :) .
