Im doing a radio show, I need some vegan music

Postby MarkNZ » Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:02 am

Hi,
So, the people who do an animal rights radio show here in Wellington, NZ are letting me do an hour long music show with any animal rights/vegan related music I want, preferably radio freindly, and easy to listen to . . .

if you have any good ideas, let me know by posting here

so far Ive got:
The Smiths, 'Meat is murder'

spearhead/Michael Franti
dead prez
8 foot sativa "sleepwalkers" all vegan NZ band, heres the video
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... d=50863974

If I cant find enough I going to go 80s with deff leppard, poison etc (all have vegan band members and big hair), and maybe even Metallica now that the bass player is trying to be vegan

Mark, have you heard of a NZ hiphop artist called Trillion? - I don't think hes vegan (possibly veggie) but he's done a tune called Dig up your lawn, about growing your own food.

There's a few reggae artists I know of, Ras Attitude (has a tune called No bones no blood), Capleton, Macca B. The're all vegan, I'm sure there are loads more but I can't think of any.

Are Spearhead vegan?

Goldfinger - open your eyes (Maybe a little too punk/heavy)
They also did a 99 red balloons cover which is very popular, has no vegan message though.

These are mostly a bit folky:

Robb Johnson - among others "I'm a little animal"
Tracey Curtis - "Vegan Police"
Bob Pyle - has an album called "Apples and Oranges"
Eastfield - "Slam" (that's a bit more punky and violent :D)
Benjamin Zephaniah - "Talking Turkeys" (spoken word)
Dominic Berry (Mancester Poet) - "Coming out as Vegan" (Good, but a bit long perhaps)

Beef - Boogie down productions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKHrmJQVpv8
Don't think the group members are vegan though :(

Cows with guns - Dana Lyons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPW0pkEY_3E

Looking For Changes - Paul McCartney

Also, if you are going to end up using music by vegans, you can't forget Bryan Adams or Weird Al Yankovic. So many great tracks to choose from :D
