Atlanta need to fix my profile

Both, racing has made me both faster and more competitive. For your first race,

Just go and have fun participate.

Admittedly, It took about 3-6 races before I had enough experience to race more effectively, aka strategy, pacing, hydration. Most of this comes in the months and weeks before with periodized training/recovery schedules. Also, seeing elite/pro runners inspires you, you can see what an efficient stride looks like, etc...

Another bonus, usually race courses are measured out and create reliable time/distance benchmarks in your running log. I use these times in predicted distance/time performance tables. I train accordingly for each distance and the time predicted and aim to break them moving up the chain.
