Help! I think I've become a fair-weather runner

Postby DC Runner » Thu Dec 06, 2012 5:34 pm

I live on the east coast of the United States, in Washington, DC. Recently, I've had trouble getting motivated to run outside. We've had a bit of a heatwave the past two weeks or so and I've found myself taking every possible opportunity to run outside. But when it's cold, I find that I'm bargaining with myself and running on the treadmill or even skipping runs entirely.

Anyone else want to commiserate or have any words of inspiration?

It is a bit cold here as well right now. I have a schedule that I keep to no matter what the weather is, it helps in a way that I know what I should be doing and when I should do it and when it is done its over. Maybe you could by some new winter gear to help a bit?

HTFU. Running in the cold is awesome.

having great fun here in the UK. It's rained most days over the last few months and it's as muddy as hell. Just putting my mud claws on, getting off road and enjoying it.

I enjoy running on cold days. I don't go running when it's raining heavy or when the roads are icy. Otherwise I enjoy running in the early and cold dark right now.

How is it going DC runner? Are you getting out there or still waiting for better weather?

I felt this way some winter days, but figured it was mostly cold ears and fingers deterring me and making me grumpy. Got some gloves and a beanie and now I have no excuse ;)

Get some good-looking gear from a running shop and you'll enjoy it!

I've got plenty of cold-weather gear. I think I was just in a slump. I came up with some great motivation. I'm running the Boston Marathon in April and my partner is pregnant and due in June. I figure Boston will be my last competitive marathon for a while, so I'm going to make this one a good one. Started my journey back into high mileage on Jan 2 and I've run 9 miles twice outside in the cold (both days below freezing). I think I'll start a training thread for accountability.

Thanks for checking-in, everyone.
