Is it an actual race then? I was going to do my local one in Birmingham but there was nowhere to get changed

Yeah - we helped start a new one in St Albans. Only started a few months ago - but numbers are up and it's good. I've not done it yet - been running long, but I'll do it soon.

Parkruns are not races...
They're good fun anyway. Probably useful for increasing speed, instead of just doing longer runs. And nice to meet other runners.
I've done my local one a few times, though I usually can't be bothered getting up that early on a Saturday morning. I'll try and get to it more often this summer.

I reckon parkruns are races if you want them to be!

You get a time and a position and an age group placing and winners are acknowledged, I notice Abingdon parkrun where I ran Saturday has published positions on it's news page. They are also a great way to get new people running what with having a tail-runner to encourage the slower and no pressure to complete fast. Different things to different people.

I volunteer and take photos at our local Oxford parkrun sometimes and they are real feel-good grass-rooty events to get involved in :D

I tend to be mid-field so only racing the clock and I don't usually wear club gear as I worry it might make it feel a bit cliquey to first timers - I've got a special vest for parkrun though

My fella did the one in Stockport and really enjoyed it. Did well, too.
