The 2013 race has 2 qualifying UTMB points, giving points for every race of The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®, not just for the UTMB®
To take part folk need to adhere to a vegan diet for the duration of the race.
The race begins from Nant Gwynantat 4.30 am. The first peak is Snowdon then Garnedd Ugain followed by Crib Goch, descend Bwllch Goch the first checkpoint is located at Nant Peris main car park (grid ref: SH659601.
• From there the route takes in Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach (down Bristley Scree and NOT Bristley Ridge!) then Tryfan and down to The Ogwen Valley. The second rest point is in Ogwen Valley (grid ref: SH661602). At this point runners need to be fully committed to finishing the run, as there are no escape routes off the Carneddau section.
• The final section starts up Pen yr Ole Wen via track leading to Glan Dena over Carnedd Dafydd, Yr Elen, Carnedd Llewelyn, Foel Grach, Carnedd Gwenellian (marked Carnedd Uchaf on older maps), and Foel-fras. By this stage all 15 peaks have then been completed but there is still a final 8 miles back to the finish point and vehicles at Llangelennin.
• Stick to the route.
• You must have the necessary skills to cope with any navigational problems you may encounter, whatever the weather. Do not rely on others to lead you.
We're having a navigation day for fell runner's in Snowdonia on Sat 13th April, led by Lupine Adventure, they're only charging £40 per person.
The following day, Sunday April 14th we'll be doing a training walk of the route.
In 2013 folk can run in relays, the route breaks down into 3 sections quite nicely.
