Treadmillathon

Postby runrevolt » Sun May 01, 2011 2:44 am

Today I ran on a treadmill to raise money for the cross country team I will be assistant coaching next year. We collected over $850 in donations prior to the run and accumulated pledges per mile totaling $15.66 per mile. I ended up running 45 miles on the treadmill before my hip flexor gave out and I was forced to call it quits. You can see the photos on my facebook page.

How long did it end up taking you? I did 54 miles inside once, I was at my university's wellness center so I probably had more company then you did though :p

Cool pictures too, I like how you blocked the candy machine :) I doubt that was a coincidence.

I did it all at 7:30 pace...so I think maybe something over 5 hours.

They actually set up the treadmill the night before, but put it next to a plug that wasn't compatible. They didn't even check to see if they could plug it in there!!! So, I found that plug and drug the treadmill over there. I kept a lot of kids from their skittles, but some braver souls managed to squeeze in and get some.

Wow! Awesome!
"The worker has the right to leave his boss, but can she do it? And if she does quit him, is it in order to lead a free life; where she will have no master but herself? No, she leaves to sell herself to another employer. She's driven by the same hunger. Thus the worker's liberty is only a theoretical freedom, lacking any means of realization; an utter falsehood."

2 days later I feel back to normal. My hip flexor was pretty destroyed on Saturday (a little concerned about long term effects), but much better on Sunday, then today I feel nearly nothing. Attempting a 2 mile run tomorrow, going no more than 4, just to test the waters...then it's back to training for a 10k in a couple weeks. I don't know...maybe this whole vegan thing does speed recovery like the "plant-based athletes" like to espouse? Whatever it is...I'm liking it!

Don't worry too much - I managed to nail a hip flexor badly running 70 miles one time & it was the only time I'd ever had an issue with it... I'm happy to say that many ultras later it has never returned :-)

Happy recovery!

Thanks! Yeah, this is the first time an actual body breakdown has forced me to quit running, but that's what I was going for anyways. :) I actually did 5 miles this morning and felt fine....going back out for more later, so all is well. Onward!
