fruitarian and scott jurek references

Postby runrevolt » Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:14 pm

The Runners World Digest has a mention of Mike Arnstein's 100 mile race fueling where he...get this...abandons his fruitarian diet to load up with boiled potatoes!!!! I would be more compassionate about this if he wasn't so arrogant and absurd with his messages.

And the Tweet of the Week is by Scott Jurek...which is pretty hilarious. ... -2011.html

Didn't he eat ramen noodles at an ultra once too? I think he ended up over eating and got sick, which I could see being easy to do on ramen during an ultra.

1- is that really true? if so then i think it all went downhill for mike (in terms of his 80/10/10 100% raw veg diet) when he started going overboard on salt tablets. the dude started taking so many during his races. now hes willing to take other things, apparently, to try for peak race performance. in my view mike asked for that attention with his rather cocky attitude in that his 'fruitarian' lifestyle is the way to go. either way hes shown that its really helped him

2- scott is the man. sad to see that hes probably not going to be in my area anytime soon. it would be awesome to go for a run with him sometime

Arnstein is still fruit based and will eat vegan carbs to avoid bonking. Id do the same. I like being organised so I dont bonk though! Dates and fruit juice are easy to find Ive found.
