This week I did my first 5k in a few years and my first half marathon EVER! I PRed the 5k by a minute, so it was a good day. Both races were slower then I had hoped for, but I ran them smart for placing and not for time as much.

5k: 18:10
Half: 1:26:19

Here is my race report if anyone is interested: http://www.runningonthewhiteline.com/2011/04/river-rat-half-marathon-rr.html

Catching up all at once on this year:

5k -18:56
10k - 38:38
1/2 marathon - 1:28:03
marathon 3:49:33

As usual, failing dismally to translate good times in other races into a marathon.

2:56 at the Stockholm Marathon today after a series of mishaps. Very happy with the result in the end. Looking forward to start training again in two weeks!

New 10k PR yesterday in the Sydney 10. Its a certified course and attracts a lot of faster runners. I ran a

http://www.nswathletics.info/liveresults/sydney10_2011/

I lost a bit of time at the start as I used this race as some 'activism' but starting out at the back and just running thru the crowd over the 10k. Only 1 runner passed me the whole time. I find this a fun strategy and it ensures you dont go out too fast either.

Ive averaged 14km a week running so far this year. I race the bike at least once a month too. Early nights help I reckon.

Crap. Only result: 50:03 in a 10k.
"The worker has the right to leave his boss, but can she do it? And if she does quit him, is it in order to lead a free life; where she will have no master but herself? No, she leaves to sell herself to another employer. She's driven by the same hunger. Thus the worker's liberty is only a theoretical freedom, lacking any means of realization; an utter falsehood."

Thanks gang!

I find that having the garmin 310xt lets me pace myself smart. Its tempting to go out faster than race pace but that means you just slow up later on 100%. I look back at running races in the past and treated them like bike races where you must go with the lead pack so you get the slip stream.

I dont think Im that much fitter than when running 40 for 10k but its just that Im smarter with pacing instead of going out like a hero and blowing up. I do a 20min easy jog for a warm up with a few strides and make sure Im racing on an empty stomach and then drink/carb up right after the finish line and do a cool down jog/walk.

Ive also been going to bed way earlier and doing that consistently.

It sounds like we have a very similar pre and post race routine. However I have been struggling with my pacing in my last two races. I do have Garmin 305 but find myself ignoring it when I race :p Does not matter if it's telling me to speed up or slow down. During training I run by feel. I believe that needs to change and I need to start setting goals for my training as well, since the "run by feel" is transferring to my racing as well. And as we all know, we feel much better then we should early on in a race, and pay for it later on!
