[quote="MikayP"]a year ago i would say id do a marathon in (fall) 2010, but ive realized to get the times I desire I need more work on short course stuff then slowly increase the distance. plus training for swimming + biking means less running workouts, its totally cool tho
Any triathlons in the near future?

[quote="veganlisa"]I took the plunge and signed up for the California International Marathon. Doing online training with Greg McMillan. I just started running again after a long layoff, so the goal right now is to just finish.
I just "took the plunge" myself and signed up for the CIM as well, with a similar goal of simply finishing! It will be my first marathon, and in October, I will be running the (Sacramento) Urban Cow Half Marathon. I actually signed up for the half first, but the more I've been running and reading, the more I have been encouraged and empowered to run a full marathon.

Green Mountain Marathon in Vermont, October 17th. Can't beat the price (25 bucks), and rural Vermont is pretty (although it might be a tad hilly). Any New Englanders here? Wanna join? And have some coconut ice cream afterwards?
Actually, my friends and I wanted to do the Mt. Desert Island in Maine, but it was already full when we tried to sign up. Bummer.
oh, by the way, training in hot and humid weather sucks. any ideas on how to make it a less miserable experience, other than running naked at 5 in the morning, preferably under lawn sprinklers the whole time?

I ran
Espoo Rantamaraton (in Finland) on Septemper 12th. My time was a bit over four hours, not very pleased with that, but at least I was able to finish the race. This was my 9th marathon as a vegan.

[quote="fredrikw"]wow

it would be truly odd to have a downhill course to be an olympic qualifier, but then again what do I know about running

Even more strange would be to have a similar course for cycling.

Well I made my way round the Abingdon Marathon yesterday. 4:01:12 might not sound very impressive but I was a darn sight more pleased that than my 5:30 odd at the Neolithic Trail Marathon back in May. Last 8 miles were rather painful, reckon I ran 26 miles and only walked the 0.2 though

The bit that aches worst today is my left arm

Frosty start but sunny and next to no wind so great conditions: flat, friendly and well organised. VRUK's Anna Finn was there and vegan Colin Braybrook broke 3 hours. Vegan supporter/marshal Maria had the boom box out to keep us all awake.
