Metatarsalgia or something...

Postby Prime » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:44 pm

I went from running about 30km a week in regular running shoes to 50km a week in Five Fingers within about a month or so. After a gradual build up of discomfort, I now have swelling, soreness mostly in second metatarsal/phalangeal joint but also slightly in surrounding joints. Worse on right foot. More swollen in the morning but eases as I walk during the day. Arches are a bit achey and toes a bit stiff. Got a mild version a few weeks ago but it went away after a couple of rest days. Had it for about a week now. Has gone done a bit but worried about going for a run until its totally gone. I don't think it's a stress fracture because the pain is minimal. It's just a bit uncomfortable to walk on without cushioned shoes. I think it's metatarsalgia but that's a bit vague. Anyone had similar problem? I'm wondering how long it will take to go away as I have to train for half marathon in March. I've been ice rolling it and using anti-inflammatory gel.

I went for an easy run anyway. It seems to feel better running than walking.
