Ankle pain

Postby Eden » Thu Sep 25, 2008 8:09 pm

I have been running about 25miles per week and have generally quite weak ankles due to previous injuries several years ago. This morning about 4 miles into my run the outside of my ankle was niggling so I cut my run short and ran/walked home. This evening it was quite sore so went to ice it and felt an odd pea sized lump moving about just in front of the ankle bone. It is painful if I twist my foot outwards but fine to stand on. Any ideas what the strange lump is and should I not run for a day or so?

i'm not sure what your problem is, but it could be osteochondritis. the floating lump could be a piece of cartilage that has come loose. maybe not? check with a doctor.
Are you doing enough to be the best?

God damn ankles!!! I started running out of the blue last week, having not ran for a LONG time, and instead of slow build up I did sprints then an hour long footy match couple of days later..lots of sprinting/kicking/jogging/twisting/turning/jumping.... hobbled around next couple of days then went to football training and couldnt even last the session. Have been trying to build up to a jog since then but every time I load them their very sore, calf and leg soreness healed no worries it is just around the ankles/feet.. So now 5 days later and necking glucosamine like its going out of fashion getting very frustrated...
Anyone else had something like this?
Might go see a podiatrist during the week, need this fixed asap.

Update: Went and seen the podiatrist and she said basically too hard too soon overuse injury for the achilles pain and as for the sharp pain in the side if it remains will get it looked at with ultrasound/xray too see what is goin on, but she had a look at my walking technique and asked about my footwear and what I have been doing sports wise lately and thinks that I may need to raise the insole up a bit, the arch. She gave me heels to place in my shoes to help alleviate stress on the achilles during healing.
Good to get an opinion but damn expensive, still nursing the wound inflicted by the 90 dollar consult fee...
