Running related knee injury

Postby ross88guy » Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:33 pm

I am training for an IronMan triathlon and have recently begun running 20mile training runs at the weekends in the build up to the race (July)

I tried to cycle to work the other day and my left knee wouldn't stop clicking for some reason. This happens every time i extend the leg and is stopping me from doing any kind of training apart from swimming.

Any ideas what I could have done to cause this problem or any tips on how to fix myself??

What sort of training plan are you following. When is your race?

I've never done a marathon, but 20mile training runs seems ridiculously high unless your race is like next month.
Context is everything.

Sooo many things it could be. Probably impossible to make a forum diagnosis... Maybe time to visit a physio if it's actually stopping your training, eh? I assume it's hurting you too and not just clicking? Is it on the outside, or underneath/below the patella (or somewhere else)? Those would be the most common - either ITB or Patello-Femoral syndrome - although I've never heard of clicking being part of those (but then, I'm not an MD :P). Do you have a foam roller? One should become your best friend during your big mileage phases!

Which IM are you doing?
