Osgood Schlatters in an adult?

Postby Marty » Mon Sep 08, 2008 7:28 pm

Well Im 32 and seem to have a very painful lump on the tibial tuberosity D: Was brought on by me doing a shitload of cardio trying to get ripped. >.>

Went to see my GP he was very reluctant to make a diagnosis, "Anterior Knee pain".... and prescribed me anti inflammatories :(

Not really sure what to do, been strapping my knee up real tight for work, the only thing that helps, obviously Im not exercising legs at all. Been going on for like 4 months now, I have quite an active job so I am walking around quite a lot still.

So anyone got any sensible advice? Please no "Squat as much as you can" :P

Did you have any Osgood Schlatters as a kid?

Maybe start with some gentle stretching and isometric or short-range exercises for quads, you can apply ice immediately afterwards if it causes any swelling.

Well Im convinced I have this now D: , read a few posts on other forums where adults have been diagnosed with OS with no prior history. Beginning to think I may need a long time off work to recover from this..... Going to go back to GP and be firm with him!

Anyone had Osgood Schlatters who could share their rehab experiences with me? Dont make me beg D: Right now its pretty depressing tho, every footstep is painful, catching right leg on anything is like ARGH

For the record I weighed myself this morning 187 @ 13% BF so its not like Im a huge Jay Cutler type carrying round 300lbs

Dunno if anyone reads this or is interested, but I went back to GP, been diagnosed with patella tendonitis and been given urgent hospital app :O

Bit depressed as it will mean a long time off work, but I guess its better than ending up crippling myself.

Keep your spirits up, it looks like you will be sorted eventually even though it means resting and taking time off work.
Think of the positives aspects in the long run.

I was diganosed with it at around 13 years old and from my understanding it only occurs during adolescent growth spurts:

You say there is a visible lump which sounds alarming. Maybe you should get a second/third medical opinion??
