New Documentary: Fed Up

Postby beforewisdom » Fri May 16, 2014 6:54 pm

There is a new documentary out called Fed Up about the sweetener industry.

There isn't too much new in it for people like the ones on VF who are up on nutrition. In a nut shell, sweeteners, and other refined carbohydrates become blood sugar very quickly. This taxes the health of the liver which must turn it into fat and those refined carbs forces insulin spikes which triggers more hunger.

What was new and interesting was that according to the documentary, the American Food Industry used its influence with the second Bush Administration to get them to pressure the UN into not releasing a report which recommended that people limit their sweetener intake to 10% of their calories.

A person needing 1800 calories a day would want to limit themselves to 180 calories from sweeteners or 45 grams a day ( refined carbs are 4 calories per gram ).

A bottle of Fanta grape soda has 80 grams of sugar.

A Cliff Builder bar has 20 grams of sugar.

One 8 fluid ounce cup of orange juice has about 29 grams of sugar.
