Nice one baldy and xrodolfox!

(For the record, I'm a woman, and French, and I don't like wine.)

I don't usually drink during meals. After meals I will usually have a couple of sips of water followed by a cup of green or herbal tea.

Recently spoke to my boyfriend about this, who among other things is a strength and conditioning coach who has worked with many big names in various fields, and who I consider to give valuable and practical advice, and apparently the latest research generally suggests that liquids should not be taken with meals, and in fact not until 30 mins later. And the best thing to drink at any point would be room temperature water.

However, we are talking about life here. Drink what you enjoy and when you would like it. (To the OP, you seem to have a very clear idea of what you like and what you don't, so I don't see how anyone else is going to suggest anything worthy of an epiphany.)

We starte triying that too when we recently got to know that drinking directly before and afterwards is discouraged… however that's not really easy especially with some meals that don't go down so well (we often eat @ the university canteen), which is why I liked the following a lot:

Great one!

I'm with the majority here: herbal tea, water or Mate, if the meal was too heavy, although I sometimes have the urge for something sweet & soft…

Plain old water.

Sometimes a glass of almond milk

A hearty ale, from a metal horn, whilst feasting and contemplating the crushing of my enemies; the sight of them them driven before me; and the sound of the lamentation of their women.

Failing that, I guess tap water's fine...
