embarrassing question about gas :(

Postby purple_mog » Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:38 am

So I'm eating more pulses *yum* but for the first time in my life seem to be suffering from really painful trapped wind/gas. Thus far have tried peppermint tea, essential oil of peppermint in some soy cream, antacids (as also getting reflux) and a bit of abdominal massage....

Any sure fire remedies you can recommend for now? Its been going on now for about 2 days and I'm feeling kinda miserable with it.

Ta!

I wrote a pretty thorough "article" about everything you need to know and can do about gas from eating legumes:

Thanks - I did basically follow these guidelines and will continue to do so, what I was hoping for were ideas on getting rid of the current painful trapped wind :)

(will dig out my pressure cooker and change the valve for the next batch though!)

You could try these yoga poses, supported shoulder stand followed by the plow:

I tend to get a bit like this with too many starchy carbs. Have you tried eating more veg? It erm, moves things along and stops them sitting in ya gut and festering. Play around a bit and get to learn yourself.

This is the only thing that has worked for me. Generally I'm ok with most of my diet and don't seem to overly suffer when eating pulses (touch wood!). Things that set me off tend to be soy, wheat or broccoli but only really if eaten in large quantities. Recently I have found that eating dried figs before having a soy protein shake gave me painful gas, whereas the other way around was fine.

For me it's all about combinations and excesses, rather than particular foods.
