I need to come up with something that will energize me as I do high endurance sports in a hot and humid climate. I have been told that coconut water is an excellent sports drink except that it lacks sodium, so mixing coconut water and salt might be a start if i can figure out a way to give it a decent taste. What would be a good glucose source to mix in?

Some ideas:
You may find some fruits are quite high in glucose (bananas, other tropical fruits, dates, cherries, sweet grapes to an extent).
Barley Malt Extract or Rice Malt Syrup is also excellent (can probably be found in your supermarket and/or local health food shop?). Not only are there some good minerals and vitamins but maltose = glucose + glucose disaccharide. Breaks down fairly readily (low metabolic load) but not really quickly. Basically all glucose, unlike table sugar (sucrose = glucose + fructose disaccharide).

1 scoop of powdered isotonic energy drink + 1 litre of water.
