Vegan endurance runner diets - good summaries?

Hi, there,

I was hoping someone might be able to point me to a good summary of the kind of training and 'race time' diets that vegan endurance runners can use.

This is to feed into an article in a non-vegan magazine which is being finished at the moment. So feedback ASAP would be great :-)

In particular, what sorts of nutrition & food might be appropriate on a heavy training day? What food patterns would be good from beginning to end of a race day?

What about particular brands of nutritional supplements, such as power bars or protein powders?

Thanks!

Your post / poll is a little bit confusing.

When you say 'Becoming Vegan', do you mean the book written by Brenda Davis?

Not a proper runner, but my diet for mountain bike races up to 24 hours solo is mainly licorice and fruit jellies plus gels and Shot Bloks.
I listed a few vegan gels on this thread, viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22785
I'm still experimenting to find what suits me best. I find Torq energy drink the most tolerable of those that I've tried, but it gets a bit sickly after a while, which puts me off drinking.
I'm thinking of getting all my sugar from gels and solids and just drinking water in the future, or maybe carrying two water bottles, one for Torq and one for water.

Ah, yes - I do. As featured on her Web site: http://www.brendadavisrd.com/index.php?code=Books

"Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina,
Book Publishing Company, 2000.
ISBN 1-57067-103-6

The poll actually doesn't work for me at all!
