i like using the black+white chia seeds with smoothies and stuff like that...but are the white chia (salba) better than the black/white alternative? the salba is a bit more expensive but if its a lot more nutritious then i dont mind buying it

I have chia seeds but I have almost never used them. On the package it says that I should have them in water over night and then it become some kind of slime I don't know what to do with. Can you just put them as they are in smoothies?

I use them during long runs for fuel. A bit of chia and some type of endurance formula works well for me.

Also, I do not believe there is a difference between the two colors of seeds.

Aside from smoothies you can make puddings with them - http://www.choosingraw.com/basic-chia-seed-pudding/

For the uk, you could try ebay- it seems a kilo incl. postage would cost you £17 or £18. According to here, http://www.gojiking.co.uk/shop/index.ph ... x&cPath=52, it seems the following has prevented the availability of chia in the uk:

"Under European Regulations, chia seeds have been accepted as novel foods, and can be ONLY consumed as an ingredient for baked goods with max. 5%"

how odd! has this happened for any other type of health food product?

You can make chia gel, but you can just eat them off the spoon, add in other foods/smoothies and so on.
