The weetbix appreciation thread.

Postby baldy » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:57 am

I have just started a new weetbix phase. Having get fedup with eating oats all the time I switched to the old favourite weetbix.
They bring back childhood memories for me and taste great.
Eat them for breakfast, put them into smoothies and crunch them into muesli, they are always good.

Anyone else love them? How many can you eat at a sitting?

Six ?
I like them fully submerged in coconut milk, I haven't got a bowl big enough to take six in one go like that.
I have four at a time, usually followed, or preceded, by a bowl of shreddies.

I have six in two shifts of three. Sometimes I skip the second three, but usually not.

I normally have 3 or 4 for my second breakfast as soon as I arrive at work. So not really that hungry.
Cant say I would be that keen to eat 6 in one sitting, you would have to eat them quick to avoid the concrete problem.
The 2x3 approach is genius :)

BGW do you use coconut milk from a tin, doesn't that work out horribly expensive?

It's this stuff.
http://www.karadairyfree.com/
It's nearly twice the price of soya milk, but it tastes of coconuts, not beans, so it's worth it for cereal.
I stockpiled a load when it was on offer in Tesco for £1 a litre. I should have bought more than I did. I've nearly run out now and it's still got eight months left til the sell by date. It's up to about £1.30 now.

Hmmm I like Weetabix, but then I also like oats. Which one's best? There's only one way to find out!

one big reason to drink soya milk is the added calcium and b12 - so NO COMPROMISE!!!

4 pieces for me - not a big breakfast eater unless weekends when its a bit later.

Even just tried some eco bullshit whole wheat organic whole earth fair whatever just now and it was great!

But then again, i have mine with strawberry jam so it will always be delicious.

Yeah I know, I think probably oats would win as they are healthier? A bit of sodium in weetbix I think?
But in the taste department weetabix should win. Luckily we live in a world where we can have both and I do every day.

Before anyone even mentions them oatibix are stupid.

What's the feelings on sugar then ?
I stir demerara sugar and sultanas in to my Redibrek, but never have it on weetabix or other cereal.

And I'm never too sure what people mean by oats in this context.
I always refer to either porridge or Redibrek (a trade name for ground oats) to avoid confusion. They're the same ingredients, but very different to cook or eat.

My usual is 7 with soy milk and banana. Where's hardcore iv? I think I remember him saying he has 10 or 12 weetbix at a time.

Don't. They're horrible. No matter how much milk you add it's always like eating a rotten tree stump.
