I was first introduced to the concept iron supps and b12 injections by NON vegan cyclists back in 1996. I started taking iron supps and b12 pills (was scared of needles back then) before I even knew what the word vegan was.

I put money on it that there is not a single TDF rider out there that doesnt take an iron or b12 supp yet 'experts' claim DZ needs to eat fish to get enough b12 and iron? Thats like saying in June 99 that you can't win the TDF on a carbon bike cos they are too light.

Here is my blog.

Mind telling what brands do you like and how much you usually take of each supplement?

Your in Philly? We did a talk there last Monday at Arnold's way. Drop past for a 'banana whip' and tell em Durianrider sent you in. :)

I stopped taking iron sups when I went vegan back in 2001. My iron levels are always good. B12 I started taking in November in 2009. I didnt have any physical symptoms but after running lots of tests I learnt that I lack intrinsic factor so doing b12 shots was an obvious solution to a problem Im not going to be able to solve naturally. I just self admin a 1000mcg intramuscular shot of hydroxycobalamin b12 every 2 months. It takes 1 minute out of my day and cost me 2$ from the local chemist. Ive smashed ALL of my cycling climbing TT times this year and set pb's in 5k,10k and 21k. I cant say thats from the b12 shots though as Ive made an EXTRA conscious effort to get early nights, stay hydrated and chow down sufficient (lots) of carbs each day consistently.
