Bicarb loading

No, I don't mean double the amount of carb loading. I mean loading up on bicarbonate of soda. Anyone here doing it before racing?

some threads that probably won't help you in your question, but it's an issue that people have strong feelings about :D

My view is that the grossness of eating bicarbonate of soda is enough to put me off it. Also, I read about a study where they concluded that alkaline boosting did have a positive effect, but so did the control group that were given placebo, so if you just believe in it you can eat anything ;)

I think it does work, but its pretty gross and makes you feel really sick.

Get fit first, then worry about chemical assistance later !

I wasn't thinking about trying it myself, just interested in other peoples experiences of trying it (It's mentioned in The Biochemical Basis of Sports Performance). It's bad enough taking bicarb for heartburn or using it to brush teeth. Wouldn't wanna swallow teaspoons of it.

I'll check those other threads out. I was actually gonna ask if certain foods in the diet can have a similar effect, but after a quick glance at the threads Fred linked to, that question is covered.
