Vegan cycling meet-up - 5th September 2010

Postby downhillingdemon » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:31 pm

Hi all - I know there are a fair few people interested in coming out on a mountain bike ride, so we're gonna have another go at getting something regular organised in a format suitable for all riders (from total novice upwards!).

Currently we are proposing the first Sunday of the month to be a regular meet-up date. The first one being the 5th September at the Forest of Dean.

Final trail decisions will be made on rider ability, however, I propose a loop of the green (family and beginner friendly and suitable for all types of mtb bike) route with a lunchtime vegan picnic stop. There is also an option for more experienced riders to take time on the downhill/XC trails in the morning and then join us for the picnic :)

If anyone fancies a go, but doesn't have a bike, it may be possible to arrange a loan for the day, so just let me know!

I can't make this as I'm trailquesting on 5th September.
I should be free for the first Sunday in October though.

I can put a spare bike together at a couple of day's notice if anyone needs :)

I'm still not sure. I may have to spend half the day in Birmingham.

Now if it was on Saturday, it would be ok............

Ah, well, let me know via PM on here if you do decide to make it :)

I am planning a 10:30 meet time (give or take) at Cannop Cycle Centre, but this has some degree of flexibility and we can always come back down off the hill to meet you later if you like 8)

Oh yes! You missed a corker of a day tbh.....but hopefully you'll make the next one??

In brief - because it ended up just a few of us, we ended up spending the day on the DH runs. It was like a DH baptism of fire as the predicted nice weather turned into rain, rain and more rain - leaving the worst kind of trails (fast running because they are hard underneath, but slippy like ice on the surface!).

Total and utter respect to Chris for riding stuff he'd never experienced before, and getting back up time and again after numerous crashes. What kind of kahunas do you need for that?!

Johnstuff was styling everything up as usual too - got some GREAT vids of him which I will post later 8)

Pics to follow shortly

Was epic fun, feeling completely broken today down my left hand side and stomach feels more like I did 100 leg raises than went out on the bike. Got my entire years supply of b12 through my vast consumption of mud. Fod on in the wet on the ht felt like a baptism of fire but the guys gave me some good advice which helped. Usually "do it slower" which just felt plain wrong :)

100% a monthly event for me!

Yeah it was an awesome day, thanks :)

Glad you enjoyed it Chris! That crash into the pile of logs was spectacular, if only we'd got it on video :)

*looks foward to next month* :D
