Vegan saddles and shoes...

Postby AE73 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:05 am

— Hey there, been trying to find some non-SPD cycling shoes (I still love the clips {I know, I know, everyone else is clip-less these days}) and wanted to know what people think of these items (or other vegan suggestions/options):

These shoes:
"1976" model, by Vittoria
http://www.vittoria-shoes.com/schedaPro ... =5&lang=EN

These saddles:
"ChoiceMax" model, by Prologo
http://www.prologotouch.com/OGchoicemaxWH.htm

Thanx in advance, hope to hear from yall soon!

welcome, aaron!

saddles are soooo personal, and by the time you've decided you don't like it, it's too late to return it.

i noticed you're stateside. competitivecyclist will apparently ship you a box full of saddles which you have a week to try out before returning (trying the vegan ones only will narrow the choice a little i suppose). look it up, i know nothing about CC, but i thought it was a good idea. i don't think they sell specialized though, and the toupe is the best saddle i've ever bought, so don't discount those.

and the shoes... hmmmm! not sure if i can say anything diplomatic about those
i was surprised they weren't leather though. all those cleatless track shoes seem to be.

— Good advice, I'll check into the CCyclist for sure. Thank you sir.

— Just checked, and sadly, no vegan saddles are in the current collection that goes out in their saddle demo program. Maybe that changes from week to week or month to moonth?

As mentioned above, Specialized! I used to have a Toupe on my old road bike, but sadly had to part ways, due to needing money. I'm planning on getting another Toupe when I get my new road bike later this fall. I'm currently riding the Avatar Gel (06 model) and it's been treating me well for the past three years.

The nice thing about Specialized's saddles is that they offer them in 130mm, 143mm and 155mm. Most Specialized dealers, if not all, should have a pad for you to sit on that calculates your sit bone width, basically, thus determining which of the three sizes to get. Not sure if any other manufacturers do this or not. Check em out though!

— I like the feel, look and shoe options of the clips.
