Vegan mtb ride out Forest of Dean 19.10.08

Postby Big Good Wolf » Thu Oct 02, 2008 11:03 am

The first one went well so now for the second of what will hopefully become a regular monthly meet up.

Cannop Cycle Centre, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
19th October, 11.00am

I think I heard somewhere they've got a skills area for practicing, but I can't find any mention of it on the web now.
If there is, maybe we could have a play around there first before heading off on one of the cycle trails.

I'll probably get there early or stay on later for a couple of fast laps if anyone else wants to join me, but I would like to keep the main meet up as a steady ride on easy routes suitable for beginners.

Bring some food and drink, it's a long distance picnic with good company and good scenery, not a training ride.

On a seperate note, there's a MTBBritain forum ride at Afan Forest and Cwmcarn on 11th/12th. These rides tend to be longer distance with a decent pace, but still plenty of breaks. If anyone else is interested and wants to go, get in touch.

i wrote a massive reply to this on vegan forum, but it doesnt appear to be approved.

ill be there!!!! i think toffo too.
we used to have a good 15 mile circuit, which took in all kinds of stuff. the only thing i can think of that could scare some people off is the mile long climb of the "tram way". but people can push if they feel the need, that even i might! theres some downhill hills bits but its tame, natural, with no jumps.
not sure if the slag heaps are still open, they may have been fenced off last time i was there (about 3 or 4 years ago), but if not, they are good for a bit of a play at going to down somereal steep shit.
i guess we'll just have to see who's coming.
and thanks for dropping nell off in brum, shes now in chippenham, and im gonna ride her hard! ;)

Cool. If there's nobody else coming from Reading, I'm quite happy to drive this time (I can only fit 2 bikes on my rack).

The original thread about this on veganforum has disappeared unless you're a paying member.
We were discussing where to meet as there's a free car park down the road from the cycle centre at the Speech House.
Personally, I don't mind paying the car park fees at cycle centres, they've got to raise the money for trail maintenance somehow.
I think any change this late would lead to confusion so I would rather stick to the original plan as the cycle centre is well signposted.
If anyone else wants to, they can make their own arrangements to meet at Speech House half an hour early and ride down to Cannop to meet the rest of us.

the business ideas we miss on this forum!

Maybe we should have a system where if you are a paying member, you dont have to see some of the threads :D

I'm a bit confused by what's going on on the veganforum right now.
It turns out the thread is still there, it's been moved.

Moving threads is one of the things that peeves me on VeganForm - would be nice if they left a marker saying it had moved.

See you in main car park.

Why not invite the people on vegan forum to VF and have the discussions here? I can promise you that we won't move the threads (unless you start them in the Powerlifting forum or something silly like that ;))

the ride today was really good ,good to see you all again and meet steve. The tramway was dificult, not steep or long but my back wheel was sliding all over the place and couldnt grip the rocks.
My descending & technical skills are those of an ex tester arent they.
I am thinkin of riding in a straight line & grimmacing at tarmac again next year.
