Race to 250kg deadlift!

Postby Jonathan » Sun Sep 24, 2006 12:32 pm

In a similar vein to the 125kg deadlift race for the women, I hope that we can get our deadlifts up by having a race to 250kg.

It was decided by JP, Oak, Deckerz and Buzz at Kathryn and I's wedding that 250kg is easy ( ) so we need to stop dicking around and get more than just one guy on the board with a 250kg plus dead!

So who is in??

I am unsure exactly how strict the rules should be regarding the lift. Spug mentioned that he would find it very hard without straps, but I inclined to say no straps...what do folk think??

I will make a list of people who want to partake, and I think, given the experience of previous challenges, we should leave it open ended in terms of a deadline.

I myself hope to make it by about March or April next year, though if I can make it before February, it would be sweet as I could consider competing in the qualifiers for Scotlands Strongest Man.

250 is EASY!

Chalk me in though. I think it will be at least a year before i think i will be nailing it. Judging from my current training i will hit 250kg squat first ;)

regarding the rules, i think it should be the same than vegan strength table so these two will be in sync. Spug mate, your grip is strong, and with mixed grip you will have no problems from your grip.

Yup I agree, no straps.

They're just a side effect of doing (too much?) grip training but still wanting to work the back for me just now. If I didn't use them I don't think I'd be able to get a decent back workout at all. Once the gripper fever dies down a bit I'll ease them out. If i do two sets per workout I might even make one strap-free.

Let's get it on

Am going to pretend I might hit it by the end of 2007. That'd be nice 8)

No 1rm progress yet but I made two doubles with 215kg this evening. Through the jackals gym calculator that gives me 230kg for just one double, and I think at absolute push I could do 3 reps.

Maxing out in two weeks, and I WILL make 230kg at the least!

What's the big fuss about? It's so durn easy. I could probably do it now if there was a bar lying around. (All i have to do is stay away from a bar with 250kg on it  )

I'm in of course. Did a fairly easy 215kg not so long ago

Did someone say easy? Then I may as well throw my name in too. Since it's to be an "open-ended" competition

I guess 150 and 200 have to come first, huh :) ?

I'm in! I need some extra motivation to get my DL back up again, and 250kg will give me a 5 lb. PR over my best from late 2004.

I assume it'll be late winter/early spring before I hit it since I won't be doing much DL work if any for at least 6-8 weeks while I wrap up my conditioning, but once I get back into it again I think I'll be starting at 500 and going up fairly quickly again. Or so I hope!

Last night I did a 250kg 18 inch deadlift!! :D

It was quite hard, but there was perhaps 255kg in the tank. Now to transfer that to full range deadlifting. I am optimistic about it though, as I have tradionally always been very weak with 18inch deads, and now it's 25kg more than my normal dead :D

awesome mate. i got a 248 kg 18" deadlift before and looking at myself in the mirror with 545 on the bar was one of the few times when i was actually proud of myself. of course an 18" deadlift to me is like a 30" deadlift to you so...
