Would any UK board members know where to get reasonably priced free weight equipment (mailorder also OK)- an adjustable squat rack, 1x olympic bar, 300 kg olympic discs, bench? Muscle-militia do you have any contacts?

The goods

Postby Oak » Tue Nov 09, 2004 11:01 am

Well here in Edinburgh they have a second hand paper that comes out each week which often has olympic weights selling for a cheap price that if you live locally you can just pick up.

Have you spoke to any gyms, my gym will sell me an olympic bar for £110 - but maybe if you find a gym that isn't trying to rip you off then this could be a possible avenue. I know that you can pick up an OB for £90 first hand.

So are you looking for any olympic bench and olympic squat rack?

I know someplaces you can buy an olympic set - at a bodybuilding shop near me they were selling 170kg olympic set for quite a cheap price.

Well, actually, Joni wants a squat cage- I don't care too much as I'm not much a squatter anyway. An adjustable olympic bench would be preferable.

Looks like there's one more reason to visit Edinburgh!

Squat rack

Postby Oak » Tue Nov 09, 2004 11:10 am

Sorry,

I know i've already mentioned this in another thread but Marcy's do the cheapest squat racks that i've found plus other cheap stuff. I think they do a cheap olympic weights set too.

Do they have a website?

It's probably a good idea to create a sticky at some point for equipment links?

Website

Postby Oak » Fri Nov 19, 2004 11:19 pm

 Sorry Rochelle

Completly lost track of this thread!

Marcy's are just a manufactur of gym equipment, and although they make the cheapest racks i don't think they do cages.
They also don't seem to have a website.

I'm gonna speak with my pal Damian - he might have some great ideas.

i got my olympic weights from body active on mosely street in manchester. 0161 228 0898. they do a 140kg set (golds gym-which is really easy to move around) for £179.99. i think that that is about as cheap as ive seen.

Umm what ive managed to find. If you've already bought the set any chance of a review of costing(esp postage) and service? and I take it you ment a 300kg set as apose to two plates that size;sorry for being thick but that sounds amazing large for single plates?

This seems to be the best that i can find.

google brought up the following

gold gyms you could get a poser t'shirt aswell ;)

Argos sell everything (note i wouldn't bother personel)

Cheers Harlequin!

After a long and hard pondering the home gym idea is still not decided!

It was supposed to be a clear and straight issue, but then after we laid down the new and beautiful floor we thought perhaps we shouldn't wreck it just yet :D We are not going to live here for long, so need to think about that kind of issues...

But homegym is still a dream - and we already have the most important plates, 1.25kg plates, given to us as a gift from two lovely people so have to get a gym to go with them :D

this looked like a pretty good rack, and quite compact too. i would recommend the body solid dumbell bench too.

I know what you mean jp, mines been put on hold since I now need a car after the local train operator desided to cancel all the day and late trains to my local station(which I use aleast 6 days a week)

plus i think ill get shot if I turn up at home with a olympic bar under my arm and a box of weights in either hand.

Still if you end up getting anything maybe you could post about service and price, I've found it really hard to find anywhere online or in the local area that stocks anything at what I consider a reasonble price. Maybe a couple of links in the stickes at the front of the board might not go astray?
