Deadlift vs Clean setup

Postby baldy » Fri Aug 13, 2010 9:19 am

Should I be doing anything particularly different when I setup for cleans and deadlifts.

Get the feeling I should start with my hips lower for cleans, but in practice all all ends up the same when it gets heavy.

Is it the same for everyone?

Hips are generally lower in the clean, usually as a function of stance width - the bar needs to travel backwards off the floor which necessitates a wider stance to avoid hitting the knees and to get the weight towards the back of the foot. Some lifters will use a narrower stance but push their knees out to get the hips lower and to avoid the bar hitting them.

Edit: excellent article on the subject here: http://performancemenu.com/articles/art ... ticleID=49

my stance is no different apart from the grip and what goes through my head.

Which is why i think my deadlift is WANK! :D I am in the process of trying to let my hips get a bit higher with my deadlift at the moment (the 250 double came back of that, so maybe there is something in it...)

Bring your feet and grip in? Hamstrings will be loaded with the hips much higher up.

actually true, the grip is touch in with deads nowdays - thats mainly because i placed my grip a bit out with cleans so i can get it to my spanking new power jerk position better :D

will pay attention again on tuesday when deadlifting.
