Chains

Postby thestoatyone » Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:42 pm

So, I've heard a lot about chains helping a lot with speed work for powerlifting and think some point in the next year I might get me some.

Anyone know where to get a set from? All the local hardware type shops don't really sell think enough link and the only place I've seen on-line seem a touch pricey.

Something you'd be interested in stocking Buzzman?

Did you look here?

http://www.pullum-sports.co.uk/strength-training-equipment/miscellaneous-strength/pullum-lifting-chain-sets/prod_519.html

You are right though, they are quite pricey. TBH I don't think they are worth the cost... I like using them, but that's only because my gym has loads of them lying around. If I were you I'd save the money and buy more plates.

I'll ask around at my gym where they got theirs from, they might have a secret supplier.

Good man! Cheaper than the other ones I've seen.

I'm going to need some more plates the way my Deadlift is going anyways, but after that chains ahoy!

Ta!

I dont really know if the chains are good unless you are advanced equipped powerlifter.

Though i do support doing all kinds of stuff for fun, but unless you take on equipped powerlifting and embrace that kind of training style, dont know if they are much use at all.

The chains at my gym have just been looted from some junk yard :)

Aye, I can see the greatest benefit is to equipped lifters, but I just fancy getting a bit of variety of loading into my training. £120 for a pair of medium chains is getting towards the tempting side...

Maybe bands are a cheaper option?

More versatile too, I use one for neck exercises.

More portable too.

More stretchy too.

More buyable from Buzz too.

Don't quite have the same type of shops here 'fraid. Shame. Will continue to keep an eye out through.

Don't know where I'd anchor them. My rack's a bit flimsy, I have visions of the rack going everywhere... Also, chains are cool.

Where do you buy building materials, tools, paint, auto parts, farm equipment, etc.?

Farm equipment? I assume farmers get it from somewhere, pretty much everyone else only has such little space that gardening shops cover what's needed. Some hardware (called Do It Yourself after the 1950's craze for doing stuff that previously one would have hired a handyman to do) shops have some building materials, tools and paint, but the chain selection seems to generally only go as far as the decorative chain that gets hung up instead of fencing.

We just don't do heavy in the same way as you guys do!

That's interesting. I didn't realise it was so different. but it makes sense. Sincere thanks for explaining to me Stoaty.
