DL wraps?

Postby vegan hal » Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:53 pm

now that my DLs are getting heavier, I want to look into some wraps I see some of you using.

are these good?

or these?

here's the full list.

AND what about these for knees on squats?

Is there any particular reason why you want to use straps for deadlifting? The main reason why people use them is if they have a weak grip in relation to deadlift strength. In most cases you are better off not using them and improving your grip. The alternative to this would be if you do a lot of assistance excersises for your back like rows and SLDL and your grip is already fried.

Others I am sure will have a better explaination than that.

I think knee sleeves are a decent idea.

http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance_repair/18_tips_for_bulletproof_knees

Wrist straps are so cheap that it's worth picking up a pair. Just don't become reliant on them. If you are having grip issues on the deadlift it might be worth experimenting with your grip a bit, it's not always a grip strength issue. Maybe you are gripping the bar with the fingers too much and need to get it deeper into the palm of your hand.

Personally I wouldn't use them for deadlifts. I find deadlifting has improved my grip, I could hold onto my max all day, figuratively speaking.

I'd probably use them for rows or shrugs if I want to nail the back though.

You mean straps? I get confused between the two all the time.

I got some tasty strengthshop straps, thought I would use them all the time for things like rows, pullups and deadlifts. I think I have used them about twice most of the time I use them to keep my powerlifting belt coiled up.

The unit20 rule would be the more neoprene the better :) I dont use them so have no idea. You want them to keep your knees warm or to keep the insides aligned?

Closed patella. Open patella are bulkier.

Rehband, Titan, Schiek, ACE are all good. If the Schiek ones you linked to are anything like the ones Tommy Kono sells under his own name then they're good, and very warm.

sorry ninearms. ONE more question. since they don;t carry these locally, i have to order them.

they size them based on your weight.
Code: Select all
# Small: Up to 130 lbs
# Medium: 130 - 195 lbs
# Large: 195 - 230 lbs
# X-Large: 230+ lbs

i weight about 190, (but i'm tall 6'2"), so this says a medium, but close to large.

would you think these are best a little snug/tight? I would hate for them to be too tight though.

You don't want them too tight because they'll tear eventually, but you don't want them too loose either because they'll fall down.

The medium is supposed to fit a knee that measures 14-18", the large 18-21".

i use mediums too. Measured the knee, and took one smaller.

reasoning is that they are made for runners/foortballers etc, lifters can have them tighter.
