Unit 20 1st timers comp - 3rd April 2010

Postby buzz » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:31 pm

Right 1st time wankers, here's a chance for you to get your feet wet providing you haven't done any strongman comps before. Saturday 3rd April, at the unit, just outside Edinburgh. £15 entry fee. T-shirts, and some other shit, trophies for top 3. Will take as many fuckers as want to do it (now capped at 30), up to a reasonable amount, want to encourage folk into this game.

UPDATE - Because of the demand for this comp (it filled up super fast, and still guys wanting to do it) we're increasing the cap to 30 folk. There's 22 down already, so anyone else interested, get in touch asap and get your name down. Because of the fact that there will be so many competitors, we've had to change the events, and now all will run head to head (deadlift probably 3 at a time). The entrance fee will be £15, but there will be t-shirts and trophies/medals for all competitors. It'll be a long day, so everyone will have to be patient, but we'll have plenty folk running this and helping out, so we'll strive to make it run as smoothly and quickly as possible. It'll all be inside as well, and be heated at least to an extent, so will be more comfortable for spectators and competitors alike.

We're also running a novice comp the last week in Feb, so if anyone prefers to do that, please let me know. Obviously if you do the novice, you won't be eligible for the first timers. Details on the novice comp will be posted up imminently.

Date remains the same, and events will be as follows;

Event 1 - Axle press for reps (floor to overhead - standard sized plates) 80kg - 75secs

Event 2 - Deadlift for reps 200kg - standard oly bar, 75secs, straps allowed

Event 3 - Medley - Duck walk 15m, sled pull 15m. Weights to be confirmed but most likely around 160 for the duck walk, and 200 for the sled pull (it's a smooth surface, but we don't want folk flying with this)

Event 4 - Farmers holds - 120kg for time. Will be high pick up, so it's purely a grip event. Competitors will be facing each other :)

Event 5 - Loading - 85kg stone, 100kg stone, 100kg keg, 120kg keg - again to be confirmed, but will be round about these weights, and to approx 50"

Any questions, comments etc please let me know.

JP I've had good fortune in my day to day life very recently, so much so that I'm able to start training with the strong guys at Coliseum Gym this weekend. I've always trained alone and combined with my last gym having a shitty bb'er atmosphere, I think it contributed to my training skiving. I have ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT that I will win this comp then out squat you in June.

ps. I will of course start a log.

Big part of competing is pre-comp trash talk. You've nailed that at least :) You're names down man, let's see ACTION!

Oh hang on, trash talk needed.

Just tell the other losers ...

"It's not worth coming dawgs. Duke's gonna own yo' pathetic skinny asses."

That OK?

I see my name is down, but below "The Dukes"? Unlikely in the final result.
Gauze mate, cannot even see you on the strength table. What should we expect?

an insane trash talk to lack of training ratio until around xmas time, culminating in a miraculous victory for me come April.
weights-wise i'd bet i can barely pull 170kg right now.
