Disco and proud

Postby Konstantin » Fri Dec 18, 2009 1:19 pm

I'm mainly a runner, but do a bit of strength and b/w work because I enjoy it and because I don't want to be a weedy runner.

I've got limited number of weights and like the disco approach, so have been doing high numbers. My max bench press at home is 37.5 kg, because then I run out of weights. I do a 10 min Z bar bicep curl test for max reps, usually one set a minute and try to get an extra set in at the end, using 20 or 24kg.

Anyone do anything similar? What sort of numbers do you get?

You should hook up with this guy:

At school (I'm 17,) some friends were saying they were going to start dieting even though they aren't really fat and working out... so a bunch of us wrote down what we wanted to achieve every day, and then we can see how we're all doing... ayways, all i have are some grip-type-things to help exercise my wrists and some very small weights... so i wrote down i wanted to do 100 grip things, 100 sit-ups and 1000 weight lifts... i'm not sure how heavy the weights are i think they're a good few kilos each but i'm not sure i'll have to weigh them... and i count each lift as one so 1000 really means 500 per arm and i don't even begin to get tired until around 500... but by 1000 i am very tired. anyways the point is i've done the 1000 lifts thing before, even a few years back when i was like 15 and i didn't have any problems except for aching arms the next day and blisters on my hands (so i wear socks as i lift them now like a retard since i can't find my gloves...) yesterday was my first day of following the plan thing i wrote down, and i did it all, and the next day my arms weren't even that sore even though by the time i got to 1000 the day before my arms were totally red at the back of the elbow area so i expected soreness when i bent my arm as that's what i used to get. anyway i had no pains really until right at the end of the day... when it randomly started aching (just the right arm really on the bicep... (i think bicep is the one i mean on th front of the arm between the shoulder and elbow...)) but again they were minor, but when i got to my front door there was like an envelope on the floor left there cos it was too big for my letter box so i reached my arm out to get it and then my phone went off indoors (i still hadn't opened the door,) so i scrambled for my keys and may have jerked my arm or done something weird to it then, but i don't know what, and it suddenly felt like i'd pulled something and really hurt... it wasn't hideous intolerable pain but it was quite bad like i'd pulled something in my arm so i like put ice on it and stuff and it went a bit. but i wanted to still follow that plan (quitting after 1 day is pretty pathetic lol) so i tried the weights and got to like 120-something and it just really started hurting so i stop... i tried pushups and that starting hurting other muscles on the back of my arm cos they're all like sensitive now...

anyways i don't want to quit so i'd appreciate it if someone gave me some advice because i looked up what it could be online and just found some disconcerting articles about bicep pain being serious and seeing a doctor and i don't think it's that bad, it doesn't hurt now as i type for example, just if i stretch it a lot, jerk it, or poke it... i really want to keep up the exercise and i've done the same thing in the past with no problems so i don't know what to do... something that may have done it is that yesterday when i got to 800 i went really fast for the last 200, but again it took a day for any pain of any kind to even begin, and i used to burst on the last 100 before anyways and after 2 years since i last made a serious attempt at this i presumed i would have gotten stronger naturally...

PM xJimx and he'll put you in touch.

try overhead pressing with the barbell. If you dont have enough weight for benching, it could work with overhead for some time.

But sooner or later you need more plates buddy :D

Thats anothing thing to try, but I'm quite happy with the high rep disco thing because it's cardio as well as strength. Anyway, if I did that I wouldn't be Disco and Proud. Just wanted to see if anyone else did that.

Ninearms - like them big numbers, maybe we should talk.

(Has anybody seen some lately?)
Next time, I'll spend the money on drugs instead.

I've started doing a weight circuit a couple of times a week, along with normal weights twice a week, as a way to add cardio without the high reps, can't stand them myself but thats just me. I do 6 exercises that can be done with the same weight on the barbell and do 6 reps of each without resting. I do this 6 times then on the last set I go through the exercises singley 6 times without rest. I find I am completly stuffed by the end.
