Bending Nails

Postby Oak » Fri Jun 11, 2004 10:23 am

Has anyone tried bending 6 inch nails?

Here is a little guide to it from an inexperienced nail bender.

1. Get some 6 inch nails.
Be aware that different companies make different strengths of nails and it will not be marked on the pack.

2. Get some thing like a dishdrying cloth to wrap the nail in.

3. Wrap the nail to a suitable grip size.

4. Bend the nail!

You could use different grips for this, if find the most difficult one is the pronated grip with both hand. The pronated/supinated or sup/sup grips are easier and worth trying out first.

Apparently the way to get in position is to hold the nail with the ends being in the middle of your palms (i would say to hold it closer in so it doesn't hurt as much). Then hold the nail at chest height with your elbows in at your side. As you try to bend that rascal move your elbows out to the side.

I would say a good routine is the one rep routine. Maybe cos i'm a wuss?

Try and bend the nail with full effort. Hold it as tight as possible and really go for it. Keep going. Keep it up. After about six seconds give it a rest and try it again later on.
Go for three times a day.

You should feel weak in your wrists and deltoids.

I eventually bent one nail. Whewww, very hard work. So i rushed out to buy some more to find that they were much harder. After five days i have bend it 1.5 degrees
My vegan pal Johnathan can bend them with ease. Takes him two goes with the hard nails!

hehe - i watched a show on circus 'freaks', and he shared his secret: once it starts bending DON'T STOP.

It's all about friction...once it starts to bend, that area has been heated and will be MUCH MORE flexible as you bend it more really quickly.

If you do it slowly, it'll kill you... This guy wasn't particularly 'strong', just had a good knowledge of physics.. Tho i guess this sorta defeats the purpose here. ;)

This is probably right. If you have any strength left! I think you do need to be pretty strong though. (That's my excuse as to why i can't bend 'em  )

How many people have tried bending these little evil pieces of metal. Any success? Any tips?

Joseph Greenstein (the Mighty Atom) made a living off of bending nails, horseshoes and biting them in half etc. As close as I can tell he seemed to think the secret was trying very hard. (And he also said don't stop once you've got it going or it would be even harder to start up again.)

Just managed to bend my second nail to about 10degree angle.
This has taken me ages, at about an average of 0.001 degrees on each attempt

I'm going crush that little imp!!!!!
(Althought i'm taking a rest 'cos my shoulders a bit sore  )
