big comp, big names. First season as a vegan for Patrik!

SCL is setting the stage for the second stage of its 14-competition calendar for 2012, as it’s next stop is on April 21 at Germany’s FIBO.

“For the sixth year in a row, SCL will organize this competition in cooperation with FIBO–Power and GFSA,” SCL’s Marcel Mostert said. IronMind® | Artwork courtesy of SCL.

“The FIBO–Power is the biggest expo for strength sports and bodybuilding in Europe, and the FIBO is the biggest Fitness and Wellness Expo in the world,” said SCL’s Marcel Mostert, “and we are busy with the preparations; it will be a great show again.”

Here is the official start list:

Zydrunas Savickas (Lithuania)
Terry Hollands (UK)
Laurence Shahlaei (Iran)
Ervin Katona (Serbia)
Tomi Lotta (Finland)
Patrik Baboumian (Germany)
Daniel Wildt (Germany)
Martin Wildauer (Austria)
Jan Wagenaar (Holland)
Anton Schimke (Germany)
Juan Carlos Herredia (Spain)
Jimmy Laureys (Belgium)
Gregor Stegnar (Slovenia)

Mostert told IronMind, “It promises to be a spectacular event again, with Zydrunas Savickas as the title holder from last year in the field.

“The competition will be done in one day, starting from 10:00 AM. After the Strongman competition, the top three athletes will also have the opportunity to do an event in the evening at the main stage of the bodybuilding finals: There will be a deadlift for reps for a three-man team, against a top powerlifting team. That will be very interesting to see and it gives the strongmen another chance to win an extra US$3000 on top of the US$15,000 earlier that day.”

It's an achievement in itself just to be a part of THAT starting lineup.

Does anyone know if it's being televised or streamed?

Will definitely be there in person. Will be the third time that I see him in that comp, the guy has already improved a hell lot, let´s see what he can do this time.

Last year you could see a cut version of the competition on Eurosport. (same goes for all the SCL comps)

Looks like a great comp. Didn't realise that Laurence Shahlaei competed for Iran, that is pretty cool for Iran.

The powerlifters will get so owned in the 3 man deadlift team,

Maybe Shalaei needed to be Iranian for the day because there was only one place from each country aside from the host nation.

This is so exciting, I've always wanted to see a vegan WSM competitor and my national pride will come a clear second if he's up against Holland/Shaleia. If anyone finds a TV/internet stream link for this, please let us know.

thats the reason. This way one more guy, in this case hollands, can get in too (though Loz would have been in second place after Hollands in current rankings).

Its a tough line up - but these things dont come easy :D Hope Patrik will have a great day!

Dont know the events yet either...

I'm praying there's a log lift...this could be a great place for Patrik to break his amazing Pb.

I guess they´ll use Heinz Ollesch´s equipment again, so most likely there will be log lifting, yoke racing, stone loading and something involving a car. I wouldn´t recommend using sand bags again, they didn´t show a lot of survivability in the previous comps there

I definitely want to see this one, so hopefully it ends up online somewhere. They only show WSM here in the states, but they somehow have lots of time for high school girls basketball. Surely strongman comps would get better ratings.

I´m also guessing Wildauer will be in the top 3. It´s about time that the deadlift kid makes an appearance at WSM (400 kg deadlift @ 20 years, car deadlift for reps world record...).
