I'm a new Vegan

Postby Gemma-Kirstie » Tue Apr 21, 2009 3:48 pm

Hi.

I'm addicted to sport. I have recently became vegan because of food intolerances. I want some cheapish vegan shoes i can play sport in eg, trainers, astro turf shoes, football boots. can anybody help me.

Thanks

Gemma-Kirstie, aka newbie!

Welcome Gemma-Kirstie!

Your in Brighton lass! Vegetarian Shoes is a must! maybe you can get last years stock on sale if you pop in? It's on the Lanes!

But as for trainers and sporty type footwear I go for New Balance, most are vegan and there made in Uk so not by some exploited worker in china/india/malaysia/etc...

Hey Johnboy74!

Thanks for replying, I didn't think anyone would, I thought people would think, 'she's a vegan and does't know anything about shoes'
Are vegetarian shoes suitable for vegan's? Are they expensive?

Hey girl! congratulations on your choice.
http://www.veganessentials.com has a section on footwear which also includes trainers, but as someone has already mentioned for pure ethical reasons you can't go past new balance.
most budget shoe places have non leather trainers, but if you are concerned about where they are made, go for nb.
anything that is vegetarian shoe wise is suitable for vegans also..
vegetarian when it comes to shoes means no leather. :)

Well, what exactly is your budget?

Most trainers are vegan. Adidas, Puma, Nike, New Balance, etc. all make vegan sport shoes for just about every sport. It just happens that synthetic uppers tend to be more versatile and useful than animal skin.

When looking for trainers, my priorities are: 1) Vegan 2) Union Made (or made equitably) 3) Function 4) Fit 5) Price 6) Looks/style 7) comfort

The first one is quite easy, and the third, fourth, and seventh are easy as well.

It is with equitably made, price, and looks that I find it hard to shoe shop.

Being vegan is the easy part.

So tell us the sport, and your price range, and we can surely find a million pairs of shoes that would work for you. Although, depending on the sport you might want to go to a local store that will fit you well (especially for running).
Context is everything.

Hey xrodolfox and xlittleghostx!

I don't really have a budget, something like £50? I play all sorts of sport, Football, Hockey, Tennis, Running, Cycling, Ice Skating, Netball, Stoolball.

I have diadord ones at the mment. My sister Carie-Louise bought them, She said the shop assisstant didn't know what she was on about, vegan shoes. So she just got them anyway.

Go for the New Balance, they look good; in UK, they are made in UK 8) (here, only "made in China/Indonesia" for NB shoes :? ) and shouldn't be too expensive, especially if you don't try to get latest models

Haha, we're a friendly bunch on here! We all argue among ourselves sometimes about religion, ideologies etc...but we're all vegans

Yes all there shoes are Vegan! I always get something when I'm down in Brighton... It's not cheap but all depends what your after, last years styles can be picked up cheap, try the website to see if you like anything http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ but you can get trainers from most sports outlets, just need to look at the coding on the inside of the shoes for manmade symbols rather than leather symbols, but as I say New Balance have a good variety! good luck!
