feeling weird

Postby passionforcompassion » Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:07 am

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the similarity of this thread to other threads in this forum. I'm sure you all probably tire of the "Is my diet sufficient?" , but I am really at a loss here. I felt so much healthier switching to a vegan diet and have been going for about a year and 5 months now. Lately, I have had no energy and when I stand I either get dizzy or on occasion my legs feel like lead. I know their could be many factors that could cause this including stress (I'm going through a really tough time in my life right now.) I just want to be sure to rule out diet before I can move on to investigating other possible causes. So, could you take a look at my eating habits and see if they seem pretty balanced?
Thank you in advance for any advice. Also, there's no "typical" day for me since I get bored with food pretty easily and love to cook but what I ate today is pretty typical as far as food group ratios.

Breakfast: sauteed potatoes, onion, garlic, bell peppers, watercress and spices in a whole wheat pocket bread.

snack: tahini/carrot spread on a corn/flax crisp. Glass of fortified
soymilk.

lunch: pizza (tomato sauce, onion, red bell pepper, pineapple)

Dinner: veggie pot pie and a slice of mango.

snack: chocolate bar (I allow myself an indulgent treat once a week)

go to the doctor for goodness sakes, why would you want to do self diagnosis ruling out your diet first hand? what harm could a trip to the doctor do, specially compared with the harm not going to the doctor could do.
do you think every over weight junk food gorging omni rules out the possibility of it being diet related first?
please, go professional!

If you have had a varied, healthy diet and you're eating enough volume-wise, then a sudden change in your wellbeing is (probably) either not going to have anything to do with your diet, or not be easily spotted/corrected without proper diagnosis (e.g. blood tests) and help.

I hope you get it sorted out! :)

Aye, consider a doctor, and get more greens! =)

You might be sensitive to wheat, or celiac, which could be causing you much grief, especially in the daily menu you described...

Go to the doctor, rule out the most serious possibilities first before the more trivial/easily fixed ones like diet. Diet can wait.

It sounds to me like postural hypotension and circulatory problems in the legs. No doubt your doctor check your blood pressure, femoral, popliteal and dorsalis pedis pulses as well as a whole range of other things. As to what's causing it, this is a problem to discuss with your doctor as soon as possible.

You might be needing extra nutrients because you are under stress, I know more vit B is needed when stressed. Although the dizzy when getting up thing sounds like iron. See what doc. says. Good luck :)

I wonder if this is prominent among vegans? I was having the same issues and went to the Doc last week who diagnosed postural hypotension.
She it was probably caused by a significant decline in my salt intake and dehydration.
postural hypotension - aka low blood pressure - can be caused by other, more serious conditions, so I second (actually 3rd or 4th) the recommendation to see a Doc.
