i'll move this to new vegan section...

vegans can eat anything! Well, exept stuff from animals or which involve animal cruelty :)

There are many vegan chocolates around, not from US so don't know particular brands - perhaps someone else can point some out?

Sodas usually don't have any animal ingredients - though sugar production as a whole used to use animal bone in the refinement process that should be phasing out and only the oldest factories may still use the method.

There are lots of vegan dark chocolates around. Usually smaller brands, and a little harder to find, but they're out there. I got a "gourmet" super-dark chocolate bar last night that was awesome. Keep in mind that it won't say "vegan" on the package -- just check the ingredients. It's actually surprising to me how many brands of dark chocolate have milk-fat in them. Why???

As far as MILK chocolate goes, though...this brings up a question I've been meaning to ask forever. I think I could get my girlfriend to go vegan if I could find her a substitute for milk chocolate. Is there anything out there? Some kind of soy-milk chocolate, perhaps?

you could make her some soy-milk chocolate by melting dark chocolate, add soy-milk/cream and tiny pieces of raisings and and nuts :D And off-the-original-topic, there are websites where you can order almost anything vegan from white chocolate to ..whatever :D

You can buy white chocolate in the UK from Veganstore, but I would address questions like this in America to Veganessentials - and he is on this board! Yay!

However, I wouldn't advise the melting etc - the chocolate doesn't set as easily. I would say wean your girlfriend onto the real (hard!) stuff. As a female chocolate junky I know that when you get a taste for dark chocolate you never want to eat the milky imitation again. It has more iron, and it satisfies your chocoholic craving quicker.

Choca and fizz

Postby Oak » Tue Jul 20, 2004 9:05 am

Hi smilnnafotograf!

No worries, there is masses of vegan chocolate and soda. Probably to much. No excuses to quit chocolate intake

Just check out the mass of vegan online stores, or your local health food store. There will be a few dark chocolates in your local store i'm sure as well.
In the UK we have a lot. There is also a vegan company called plamil that make all kinds of chocolate stuff in the UK. They have also attempted a milky choca called Mortello.

I would recomment checking out veganessesntials.com for the US (or anyware) they stock lots of sweet things. Also a bar made from Terra nosta which is milky.

Most Soda is vegan, it's just most vegans avoid certain companies rather than the products. Coca-cola and pepsi for example. In the UK we have this little book called the vegan shopper which lists everything.
Even for people living in the US, might be worth checking out the vegansociety in the UK.

Things like flap jacks, and raisins are sometimes coated with dark chocolate. Also if your superstore has a allergy section - food free from things like milk and wheat. Then check this section out. In the UK stores there is a vegan milk chocolate in each one!

If anyone needs a more specific list, let me know.

We do an online database www.isitvegan.info - at the moment it is only available for the UK. However, some very friendly activists in America are looking to set one up as well, so hopefully you will soon be able to have all your questions answered. :D

I checked out http://www.veganessentials.com/ and guess what - they have four pages of chocolate! Including a couple of milk chocolates - not to mention marsh mallows in a chocolate cup. :D
