sample diet to analyze

Postby rachelm » Mon Jul 02, 2007 8:07 pm

I saw encouragement to do this in another post, so I am going to write what I eat most days:
Breakfast:
2 little frozen vegan waffles with Adam's peanut butter and molasses

Lunch:
rice or couscous, boiled/steamed broccoli, peas, maybe some pinto beans, maybe some fruit salad - we have raspb and strawb from the garden. Summer time is easier to start these diets huh?

Dinner:
Salad, more rice and beans or couscous. Usually a frozen Amy's vegan dinner.

Well, I haven't taken the time to cook yet. It's kind of lame, but I have put it on my to-do list for September when my BS degree is over.

I also drink a soy protein type drink sometimes, use soy-yogurt with granola and apple or pear cut up.

For some reason, I haven't been drinking alcohol or eating sugar at all since starting this diet, but I have carob chips and dates in the cupboard just in case.

I just worry if I should eat more protein, or less fat?

Do you guys just listen to your body in the transition phase? I find myself wanting to eat at least four times a day. Also, exercise is at a minimum until school is over. I know a lot about the way it should be, but if I try to do it all at once, I sabotage. I just wanted some feedback.

I really like this forum. I can't watch those videos though. I tried yesterday and I just cry and never forget them. My dad worked in a meat packing/slaughter house for a lot of my childhood and he would tell us about the animals as we ate them. I don't know if it made me more sensitive or more accepting. My mom turned us meat and sugar free once my dad quit. I wonder how he did it for all those years to support us. All I know now is I can't handle how much horrific pain we cause creatures. I feel helpless to stop it, but one thing at a time.

Thanks,
Rachel

hey there

that looks like a very healthy diet and as long as you make sure there are enough beans and peanut butter in it and some soymilk then you should be ok with the protein. I prefer quinoa and tofu as major protein sources myself but to each their own!

if you are hungry and want 4 meals... then have 4 meals :D if you want 6 meals have 6:D I would say 3 is the absolutely minimum and requires snacks in between.

just make sure you eat as much as you need :D

eating pre-made dinners is not that great - i would stick to stirfry veggies with tofu and nuts served with rice or other grain of choice. Probably cheaper and doesnt take long to cook at all - about 10mins max. But hey if it keeps you fed and healthy then eat whatever you want!

what kinds of exercise are you looking at doing once you finish studies?
what are you studying?

Fruitbat,
Thanks for the reply. I am currently getting my BS in dental hygiene which covers research, education, public health and required humanities. I took four classes each in the fall, winter, spring, and am finishing up a speedy six week quarter with two classes. It's been very busy and full of homework for almost a year now and it's getting old. Now I am studying Women in American History and International Communication. I suppose I should be grateful to be in an era and country where I can get an education other than weaving and making my husband happy, so I should be relishing my pages and pages of homework.

I also packed on weight steadily in the last year. I think I will get into yoga, running twice a week (2-3 miles) and maybe some home weights. I rarely stick to gym memberships. My husband and I just went and saw Sicko - a movie about health care in US, Canada, Cuba, France, GB, and since my husband isn't really into moving just yet, I think diet and exercise will have to be my health insurance for now. Scary. What is your routine? Do you love your exercise ball?
