tobias wrote:zaii: "If you shoot on a decent, or by chance superior grappler, the fight's not gonna be done with your choke attempt." it takes one to know one meaning i could probably spot that, and very few people grapple, that's why it's underrated in the first place.

Here in the US there are plenty of wrestlers around, that is greco roman high school and college wrestlers. Those guys, if they are any good, can stuff a takedown no problem and give you a fight. I agree with the take one to know one, you can tell in about 1 second if a person trains at all and sometimes what they train in based on their stance and composure just prior to a fight... muay thai, boxing, wrestling, etc.

If someone goes to take you down, just give them a knee and let them run right into it, if it is a greco roman wrestler type of guy, they will never expect the knee as they aren't used to it. Or if they are fast, sprawl!

I think a push kick is a pretty good move, accurately placed it would give you enough time to peg it before anything else got started........ Agree?

What does "peg it" mean? What is a push kick? I think "peg it" means run. I think a push kick is a front snap kick or a teep. I would only run if the other dude was huge. I only kick to the knees. So I disagree.

If the other person is always going to be bigger than you strike to the groin with a knee, punch, grab the towel or a bag of marbels, gouge the eyes or stomp on their instep with your heel and peg it. When in doubt use a legal weapon, ink pen, house or car keys to the eye.

I do not think you have time to pull out a tube or jar of deep heat if you are being attacked. Go with the ink pen or keys, they are more easily accessible.

In Jeet Kune Do we use push kicks from the rear leg, it is not a speed move, but power. From the front leg with a pushing motion would be a foot jab, all the power comes from the psuh off the rear foot.

Just because someone is big doesn't mean much.

In JKD do you strike with the heel of the foot or the ball of the foot? I would NEVER use a muay thai foot jab off of the front leg on the streets. For those of you who are not familiar with MT it is a defensive kick off of the front leg. A rear leg foot jab (teep) in MT striking with the heel to the solar plexes can knock your attacker on their ass and they might not get up anytime soon. A teep is slower than a front snap kick but I do not think a front snap kick striking with the ball of the foot is as powerful. I have watched full contact kickboxing matches of various styles of kickboxing and I have never seen anyone use a effective front snap kick. Most of the competitors I have seen use the heel. Am I preaching to the Choir? :?

Okay, how about a backpack full of explosives?

Is anyone really likely to mess with you then?

Strike with the heel, not the ball of the foot. A lead foot jab is good for defense, for stopping someone trying to get in on you or throwing a kick. As far as kicks go, in a fight I would stick to thai round kicks and also knees, probably wouldn't mess around much with anything else in a street fight. Sparring is different, can be fun to mess around with someone with some other kicks.
