fighter calories

Postby coslisa » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:06 pm

How many calories should a fighter be eating and what are the best foods for energy?
I need to lose about 10lbs in four weeks going from 54kg(120lbs) to 50kg(110lbs) I currently have around 900-1100 calories a day. I do have a day before weigh in but don't really believe in weight cutting and would rather lose weight rather than cut as I will be going to the 48kg(105lbs) division in July and need to stay at 50kg after my fight to make the drop to 48kg easier.
Any help appreciated, Thanks

900-1100 cal sounds very, very low, even for a non-athlete.
Be careful there to not only cut out on calories but you might miss on vitamins and minerals, too.

Whats wrong with weight cutting? 2kg is a piece of cake, no need to change your diet for that.

coffee, oatmeal, raw spinach, citrus fruits have always kept me even keeled and energized.

when i'm prepping for matches, i drop to 1000cal/day, tapering down to less the week of the fight and/or go raw for the month prior.
or
cut out the sodium the week of the fight and the morning of weigh ins break out the trashbags and jump in the sauna.

that said, i wrestled for a long time. cutting weight has always been easy for me and in the states, cutting weight has always been an accepted part of the game
