bag gloes necessary?

Postby :x: » Thu Nov 27, 2008 10:20 pm

hello everyone!
after again losing a parts of the skin around my knuckles after punching the heavy bag bareknuckle, wow this word even sounds so HARD ;) , i thought about maybe buying a pair of bag gloves...the most i found are not vegan, but there are some i think...
are these really necessary or should i rather wrap my hands properly and buy you a nice present? is simply using my 14oz cheapo sparring gloves really bad for them?

I would stick with the gloves you have. I use the same gloves for everything and have not noticed any exessive weardown on them.

Also, Id always use bandages when doing bag. No need to take risks for insuries.

I've never needed a different set of gloves for bagwork. Generally I just use bandages though.

I wouldn't do it bareknuckle too often, there's no need to injure yourself while training.

Where do you find vegan gloves? All the ones available through my school are leather so I need to go elsewhere and buy them. Are there any particular brands you recommend as a good value for the money?

I'm actually looking for the ones that I see called MMA gloves....
It's to not mess up my knuckles on the bags and also to give a little bit of cushion to my practice partner in case I hit too hard, but, still have a wide range of motion for my hands so I can still grapple, etc.

This site has a lot of great ones, some of them for some really great prices too!

Thanks so much for the tip.

I like to work the bag with just bandages, or even totally bareknuckle. BUT, its important to take it more easy, and be more focused on the techniqe. If you just go wild on the punching bag like if you had bandages and gloves, you´ll surely hurt your wrists. I don´t think there is many trainers that would recomend you to go bareknuckle.
But it feels more hardcore 8)
Of course you can use youre regular gloves, but you will were out the gloves a lot more, if you dont mind then go ahead.
