flexibility training

Postby WhoCaresWins » Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:38 pm

I posted this on the "yoga" bit, but no-one answered

I am really keen to improve my flexibility. I have read on this Tricks site that it's better to do dynamic stretching to improve high kicks. And I have been following this site's advice.

I suppose what I am wondering is whether I should persevere with this sort of thing, or go back to doing yoga.

Yoga types aren't known for their high kicking.

I just took up ballet, or you could get a leg stretcher I guess...
There is no try, only do.

Imo if you want to increase your flexibility go with yoga for your kicking range, because you're also going to need to loosen your hips for it (this helped me). While improving your flexibility I would continue practicing kicks to improve speed, agility, coordination, etc.

Actually I used to do some ballet when I was a student ...

@ crash - yeah Rodney Yee is great, I've got one of his videos.

Think I will try to fit some yoga in ...

thanks

I bought a ladder (prop it against a wall and keep trying to get to higher rungs) and practiced pulling a full split... after about six months of doing it every day, I managed to get my split to the floor and my kick to the point where I could break things over my head (I found this out with the light in the room I was working in, not "bright").

Look up Paulie Zink on youtube. He is one flexible guy. He does what he calls Yin Yoga. It gets people flexible fast.
