Lipton Is Testing On Animals

Postby beforewisdom » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:30 pm

They are doing what Pomme did, testing their stuff on animals so they can make health claims. Another reason to switch up to higher quality tea and avoid their crap:

Rabbits were fed a high-fat, cholesterol-laden diet, leading to extreme hardening of the arteries. They were then fed tea to see if it could reduce the lesions that formed on the animals' arteries. After the experiment, the rabbits' heads were cut off.

^That sounds perfectly reasonable for a tea company...

Aw gawd. Why? I suppose if they start making claims that tea boosts your testosterone and is thus macho after some furkedup animal experiment we'll all really be in trouble with you beforewisdom.

A little sceptical of anything which refers to the bacterium Escherichia coli as a toxin, although some of the diseases its pathogenic forms cause are mediated by toxins.

The kicker is that according to the blurb for the PETA petition, the tests they are doing aren't sufficient legally to make the health claims they would like to make.

In regards to the other issues I would be satisfied if just 2-3 Hollywood action heroes muttered something about being vegan and wanting tea before they uttered a catchy line before crashing a car and shooting a gun.

No need for vivisection on my part.

Drat. I often get tea while waiting at the train station and the other options are even worse than Lipton. I'll have to dig out my travel mug and get better tea for less money while reducing waste. *shakes fist at Lipton*

But seriously, how on Earth? Is it a gut reflex thing, "let's test this stuff on animals", even if it won't get them backup for claims? Then they should get their guts checked. Maybe try veganism for a while.

I don't know how it is in Europe, but here places that sell tea will charge you several dollars for a cup. I have a real trouble with that when all they do is drop a tea bag in a paper cup of hot water. I could have done that myself for a dime or a little bit more for high quality tea.

I can't believe tea is tested on animals. There's already plenty of humans that are fed a high-fat, cholesterol-laden diet. Why not test on them? Good thing Lipton tastes like crap anyway.

It's more or less like that (most charge slightly less than two euros). Only they've been handing it out for free the last couple of weeks because our train system was bogged down by the snow.

Going to carry both my travel mug and a couple of tea bags now ;)

It's neccesary because there just aren't any human tea drinkers you could examine and tea is such a new thing that there are loads of concerns about the long-term effects. (Sarcasm)

Seriosuly though, EVERYTHING has been animal tested. Tap water causes birth defects, as do pineapples. Disco music turns you gay. It is safe to eat 250kg of baked beans per day. Cigarettes don't cause cancer. Arsenic is safe to eat, but parsley is a poison. These are just off the top of my head but all evidenced from animal experiments.

So, would it do any good when you're presented with a box full of different Lipton flavours to give it back to the server with a neatly folded copy of the article tucked into every partition? Because that happened to me today. I'm wondering whether it would actually help or just make people angry.
