Volunteers for Essex!

Postby Pete » Sat Jun 19, 2004 2:19 pm

Vegan Bodybuilding & VF have been invited to do a stall (& talk, but you wont be expected to do that :) ) in Essex Friday 29th October from 6pm in Brentwood. I've got to be in Bristol the next morning to do the Bristol vegan festival (30th), so I can't make it to do this. If anyone in the London area (or willing to travel) fancies taking it on, we could supply leaflets etc. All you need to do is turn up & chat to people.
It would be great to get a stall there as well as the Bristol fest!
If you're keen you can reply to this or PM (or even E-mai) me whatever.

Any offers :?: :?: :?:

I live down the road (ilford), I have no excuse not to offer my assistance, I couldn't do it on me own though: anyone else up for it.

That's great :!: Now we need another volunteer or two, anyone else (don't think you have to be buff or anything, just be willing to chat to people & give out stuff)...You'd also get to meet some board members in the flesh , always good to put people to the messages we read here :)

I was thinking of asking James http://www.veganbodybuilding.org/james.htm if he fancied giving the talk, as he's studied nutrition (& is in pretty good shape). I'll give him a bell later on & see if he's up for it.

Just casually onlooking the VF representing stuff...

Postby CENTURION 2 CENTS » Sun Jun 20, 2004 8:25 pm

........Sounds good, it really is great to put VeganFitness, the board
and everything out there in amongst and alongside what non-fitness
vegans do, so that since some vegans may out of choice may not be
into fitness to the extent that we are (but no less healthy) we at VF
can be the ones to add an extra slab of "vegan beefurky" (wtf?)
to the vegan agenda (namely HEALTH as a broad sweep)... if I'm right
in thinking thats what the deal is about at the 2 said festivals upcoming.

Westmid person here, not imminently coming to London or Bristol just yet, sorry,
but all the best for having prescence where it matters for those that can represent us(etc)... :)

So far we are actually going to several vegan events & this year we are branching out into other non-vegan areas! Eventually we'd like to attend some of the Bodybuilding shows around the UK & other sporting shows, but that needs sponsorship (£££'s), but the plan is for us vegans to take over most sporting activities in the very near future

London Vegan Festival, Kensington Town Hall, Horton Street, London Saturday 4th July 2004. www.veganfestival.freeserve.co.uk

Festival of life, Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn, London WC1 Sunday 12th September 2004 http://www.festivaloflife.net/

Bristol Vegan Festival, L-Shed, Bristol Industrial Museum, Princes Wharf, Bristol Saturday 30 October http://www.viva.org.uk/

Mary
I walked home wheeling my pushbike via the cannal from Wolverhampton when I got a puncture in my mountain bike tyre the one time....

Maybe I'll head out that way again if I have just cause in meeting you or one of your crew, or merely for the exercise and a shop around town, coz its been 3 years at least since I've been along the canal in that direction which really isn't that far really, and feels not very long ago since I did, and anyway I'm fairly familiar with the route and you can't go wrong riding the towpath of a cannal anyway. Feel free to Talk to me via pms btw! :) Canals are great for getting away from the traffic!....apart from when the fishermen congest the two path with their rods, randomly pitching out at the waterside, but they tend to be few and far between in most places along most canal stretches. I even recall a fisherman intended area approaching Wolverhampton set aside from the canal and adjacent to it you may know?... Anyway thats my 2 cents used up!!

ANYWAY JP..... about these events, when do you get to hear to more?
I mean might we get a pre-sight of what you intend for us as a site
and as a movement before the shows are all over for another year?

If after the shows are over, or festivals, whichever the case, I'd love to hear how things went. as I'm sure the whole board here would. :)

Peering into the looking glass, I notice I'm actually quite highly prone to partaking in something of this endeavour, as in interested in getting more involved. I would come to the 4th of July one IF I made a step to it real quick but I am not sure I am that competent enough in getting my arse on the move to make it!....since I will have other London curiousities to explore and consider too....Shucks, so many distractions from our cause!.... but still, vegan ones!

A worthy testimonial event no doubt it will be, will it also be a first for us lot?....I reckon so right?

Choosing what I would need to do in advance reckons well with me and is a factor with me at any social events, as I am anti-social as f***, in the non-gregarious sense, but I think I'd be fairly safe & comfortable in this situation I dare say, so hey I guess if its just being there as a presence, and a helping hand, why not give it a try, and if promoting is the key to the job and I am knee deep in the ""Duoh, whats vegan"" then will... "just take a look suffice?" "The vegan future is before your eyes" Seriously, how many of us VFbods might be attending??
.....Any clue yet in getting near the total you helpers you want JP??

Did I say knee deep, Yeah right more like up to my neck, but so long as the glass is full its half empty too, and thats despite the fact I don't drink. (this is a late post, so I might sound a bit cuckoo in this post, sowwwy).

Finally, howabout the events later in the year.... Will they be prepared for
in accordance to how well attendance and prep etc goes down in London??

Further more, howabout some Representative agenda skills to list!!

This could be fun as well as good mental exercise to refresh our memories of what keeps us on the course we are on as vegans.....

I will edit in any recommendations for key things to say at an event, that I think up as soon my brain sparks and with the obvious realization that everything in the world is not vegan thus why we need to enourage people to see the minority as an attractive purisuit, with VeganFitness at the heart.....in order to make a proper and lasting impression..... so as I said lets get some ideas for what could be advantageous in representing veganism, in particular bekoz even though I'm a long time vegan I am still no expert and myself would be a poor image in words for anyone
to take away if I told them what I randomly thought, so its best we have reasonably clear guidelines common to every vegan strictness (or lack of type of vegan) to give pointers for all what makes a good sound bite (in relation to Vegan Fitness promarily of course, as that is what we specialize in). :)

Bumping this up as we really need someone to help out GenTDuke as I need to let them them know whether we can do a stall pretty soon, come-on there must be someone who fancies pitching in. No experience necessary, just being keen & willing to give out a few leaflets & chat to people :?:

Come on people. if you live in London you got no excuse, you can can a train from Liverpool street straight there. It will be cool, I wanna get more active in promoting Vegan fitness. I am sick of all the people I know telling me how unfit I must be due to the pastey vegan stereo type (I DONT FIT): we can help to destroy a label and promote a Healthy Vegan way of life by getting more built vegans out there with the rest of society

If we don't get any volunteers I may be able to convince a mate to give me a lift (I'll have to ask), but it means going to that, driving back through the night, then an early train to Bristol (for the Bristol vegan festival) after a couple of hours sleep, not my idea of fun :(
& the idea of 2 solid days of doing stalls isn't best either  , so someone(s) had best volunteer :D
& I don't know karate, so who'd keep Mary interested
