Paul Vogel on ARZone this weekend.

Paul Vogel is a representative and founding member of the Irish Animal Education Trust (IAET). The IAET was formed in 2009 with the aim of developing and creating a greater capacity for critical thought and reflection on all aspects of our relations with other animals relevant to the Irish school curriculum. Paul develops and distributes educational materials that address animal use and treatment to school aged children from 5 - 18.

Paul became a vegetarian in 1973 after watching a television programme which had scenes of live hens being thrown into the back of a lorry. Paul immediately made the connection between the meal he was eating at the time and the scene on TV. Paul continued on blissfully unaware of the facts about dairy and leather production until in 2007, when his dog friend died and he wanted to do something to repay him for his love.

Looking for an opportunity to become involved in animal rights, Paul campaigned with Animal Rights Action Network Ireland (ARAN) for about a year - a year in which he never heard the word vegan or much else about animal rights from his fellow campaigners. It wasn't until he met the people from Aliberation that he had conversations about a vegan diet, animal rights and the moral inconsistency of being merely vegetarian.

Paul, who has a background in grassroots human rights advocacy and psychoanalysis, is also an artist based in Dublin.

Paul has generously offered to share his experiences in vegan advocacy within the education system, along with his knowledge of grassroots advocacy spanning many years, with ARZone members.

This is an event for which questions must be registered with ARZone prior to the day, and may be done by leaving a message for Tim Gier, Jason Ward or Carolyn Bailey in ARZone before the event, or emailing

ARZone is supportive of rational discourse and aim to provoke intelligent dialogue by presenting a diversity of guests to our members from the animal advocacy community.
