Clif Builders Bars

So I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, but a guy from my running club has just started distributing Clif stuff (in St Albans, UK).

I was asking tonight and he's selling builders bars for £1.50 a bar, or £16.50 for a box of 12 (£1.38 per bar). The price for boxes of 12 aren't on his site - but he just emailed me the price. You can also ask him about big boxes (which have 7 of the smaller ones in or something..). But he doesn't have online shopping so not really sure how it'll work for distance sales!

I posted about this before, but just in case someone heard and cares, some of the chocolate flavoured Clif products use palm oil and have saturated fat. I wrote to Clif asking them about it. They claim they get their palm oil from a responsible company that does not contribute toward deforestation or the killing of orangutans. When I asked them how they knew that they didn't write me back.

As an aside, much to my disappointment, I discovered that many vegan mayos also have saturated fat in them. Many of the stores in my area have prewrapped vegan sandwiches I like to get several times a week that use the mayo.

As a vegan I am and I imagine most people reading this are very good at reading labels, thus are more than aware of the ingredients in a Clif bar.
I will rest the urge to go on a rant about palm oil other than saying maybe we should support companies that are aware of the issue and trying to use an ethical source in there products.

So does anyone know the best deal on them.

What more can they say? Did you also ask them if their soya was GM? Or if it also came from a sustainable source? Or if that also resulted in deforestation?

They are a vegan company, not sure why you'd want to give them a hard time. Unless of course you're also hassling nestle and cadbury about their products too.

Vegans aren't immune to cardiovascular disease.

Some people are more resilient than others. Vegans can get heart disease from vegan food items.

Last year JP was ready to go on statins until he experimented with reducing his intake of takeout curry's. It turned out the oils/transfats they used were enough to give him a problem.

The same might happen to a vegan who uses a LOT of the chocholate Clif products, vegan mayo, and vegan products ( ie packaged baked goods, tofutti brand cream cheese, faux ice creams, etc ).

People tend to overestimate how healthy they eat until they make it a point to record what they take in. Vegans tend to be arrogant about not having to be aware of saturated and transfats.

So, as a kind gesture, I posted my "heads up". Sort of like telling someone "Hey buddy, there is a puddle right by your foot".

I bought 2 boxes last time... a total of 48 Builder's bars... I can eat 1 a week and still be eating them in a year. Some might say this is excessive. I think it's just about right.
