Condomi can be obtained here: http://www.vegansociety.com/catalog/pro ... cts_id=157

There is an oral contraceptive called Femulen, which has no animal derived ingredients, but it has been tested on animals. There are also numerous risks/ side effects associated with it.....

There's also a computerized form of the rhythm method....

A friend tells me Lifestyles are vegan as well, i think she recently confirmed this as well.

Are they available in the US? They're all over Canada.

Thanks for that link about the Ladycomp, Crash- that's really interesting and I haven't heard of it before.

Glad it was helpful Rochelle. :D ... And yes Dave, Lifestyles are available in the US as well, but I didn't know that they're vegan.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) informed me when I asked that the Ortho-Evra patch (which I use, and have been very happy with) contains no animal products or by-products, but is tested on animals. I'm told the Nuva-Ring is vegan, and friends have reported being very pleased with it.

i'm just using condoms... usually vegan ones... and sometimes non-vegan ones (if there's no vegan ones available at that moment etc). it's quite easy to buy vegan condoms in finland, because in some eco-shops and in many pharmacies they sell either those "Condomi" or "Durex Avanti" condoms. those durex avanti ones are latex free, and expensive.

about children. since i was 15 years old i have been feeling that i don't have any right to have a child, because of overpopulation and environmental problems etc. but nowadays the more i think that i'm not allowed to have a child, the more i have started to want it, one day. adoption is an option that makes more sense, and don't make me feel bad. but somehow (maybe because i'm studying biology, and there "genes are the thing that matters" hehe) i feel that if i never have my own biological child, i will miss a big part of human (animal) life.
well, the question of having a child is not very critical in my life at the moment.. but it's still an unsolved problem.. where my own selfish needs are fighting against "the ideal ecologial way of living"..

condoms are great, but I think they are not as pleasant if you are in a longer term committed relationship, which is why I'm pretty excited about the Ladycom (though at over £300 it's really expensive) as a potential replacement for the Persona which I use. This device appears to be way more reliable, and doesn't require tester sticks which contain minute amounts of gelatin, but it would be good to see more clinical trials. I'm pretty lucky though. I've never been pregnant in the 20 or so years that I've been sexually active, and that's down to common sense, condoms and Persona :D

my biological clock def doesnt click in favour of children - good thing too as the mere idea of sex scares me. if ever i did though, i have always worried about what kind of contraception to use as i dont believe in upsetting my body's natural cycles so no pill or injection for me. i had never heard of Persona but i like the sound of that. i would be in favour of condomi too except that i know alot of guys dont like using them as they say it takes away alot of the pleasure (though once more i struggle to comprehend this aspect t of it)

i agree that condoms are not nice, especially in long term relationships. and condoms break easily.

my friend is having a child soon, because she didn't use condom while having her periods.

for me veganism is somehow "just" an ideal, so i wouldn't worry about gelatin (in sticks, or in day-after-pills) if the alternative is a higher risk to get pregnat (..and have a child, or do an abortion).

when i was younger i was taking pills. personally i had no problems because of hormons, and i wasn't worrying much about lactose (or animal testing), because i was always thinking that the other alternative would be to get pregnant. well, i'm not thinking like that anymore. but now the main thing i would be worrying about pills is that the hormons have really bad effects in natural ecosystems. for example, some male fish have female"things" (sorry i don't know which word is a right one) as well, and this is said to be because of hormons in urea of the women who are on a pill.

"persona" sounds good :)

I dunno, i don't think connies are that bad. I think any guy who makes a big issue of is a selfish wad that isn't worth your time in the sack.

Pregnancy or STD's are soooo not worth the weee bit of 'extra pleasure' that he may experience.

Most condoms are made from latex, although you can get ones made from sheeps gut for people with allergic reactions to latex. But the packets of sheep-gut ones are specially marked as far as I am aware, and are not really common.
I got a vasectomy a few months ago. It cost around $380 I think, and I don't regret it at all. Cheap insurance policy against having more kids. The operation lasted about 15 minutes, and wasn't painful at all. They give you 2 shots of local anasthetic which feels like a couple of pin-pricks (a lot less painful than getting a local in your gum prior to getting a filling in a tooth). I was talking to a friend recently about it and he seemed to think I was very brave for getting it done. He winced when I told him about the 2 injections into my testicals. I don't know why he made such a big deal about me being so brave, he just recently got his first tattoo - a skull - on his penis. Weirdo.

I think a vasectomy is a good option. I tried getting one this past summer but I was declined by the doctor I was referred to. He figured I should be married for a few years before I went with an operation like that. I could understand this if I was like 18 years old and I was talking about how I do not want to have children. But I am turning 30 in a few months. You'd think they would think I was mature enough for a decision like this. I need to find a different doctor who can perform this procedure.
